When it comes to attracting diverse talent, organizations are quick to communicate their DE&I commitments by using photography that shows diversity and by leaning on the stories of their employees. But to help leading U.S digital bank Discover attract early tech talent, we focused on something that is continuously overlooked. Language - both written and visual.
Through research, we heard that our audiences found the language used by financial services firms to be off-putting. Alpha-male language that makes candidates feel they need to be assertive, confident and competitive to fit in and succeed.
So we created a beautiful video consisting of animations. Using a brighter colour palette of oranges and yellows that brings to mind feelings of warmth and enthusiasm. And an illustrative, icon-led approach that married nicely with our playful, approachable tone and set us apart from the competition.
We rewrote the script on how to speak to candidates.
